Congratulations to Dr. Tetyana Vasylyeva, assistant professor of population health and disease prevention, who received the National and/or Global Health Impact Award, from the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences (COHS) Faculty Assembly.

Vasylyeva was recognized for herexceptional, high-impact research projects studying the effect of the war, and the disruption it causes to health care services and to people’s lives, using the HIV epidemic in Ukraine as an example. She has expanded her global health research projects in Colombia and looking at the progression along the HIV continuum of care for Venezuelan refugees and in Madagascar and studying how new economic development changes migration patterns and HIV risks of female sex workers.

The Ukrainian born researcher joined Wen Public Health in 2023, prior to coming to UC Irvine, she was a faculty member at UCSD and, prior to that, at the University of Oxford where earned a DPhil (PhD) in molecular epidemiology.
